The Late Bloomer Foundation will select an individual on an annual basis to be the recipient of the Alibi Flight Award. This award will honor an individual selected from a group of candidates who most demonstrates that they are a late bloomer by pursuing a dream later in life and, through their dedication to that dream, made a change in their life at a time when others might have said “it’s too late.”

History of the Alibi Flight Award
My dad, Henry loved the ponies! There’s nothing he liked better than going to the race track, unless it was personally handing out candy to the neighborhood kids on Halloween. That was dad, a gambler with a big heart.

Dad loved one horse in particular over all others; a horse named Alibi Flight. What dad loved about this horse was the kind of race Alibi Flight ran. This horse ran the entire race, dead last, except for the very end. At the precise moment, Alibi Flight would sprint from behind the pack in the last ¼ mile to win the race.

Dad always told me, “You know, Nance, you’re just like that race horse, Alibi Flight. You’ll be at the back of the pack for most of your life and then just when everyone counts you out, you’ll sprint during the last ¼ of your life and win the race!”

My Dad couldn’t have been more right. I was a high school dropout at 40. And just when people thought I’d never do anything more than work meaningless jobs at minimum wage, I got my GED at 41 years old, graduated law school at age 50, became a lawyer in New York City. I then started Late Bloomer, Inc. at 55 years old.

That’s why the Late Bloomer Foundation has named its annual award, the Alibi Flight Award. The award seeks to honor that individual who demonstrates best the spirit of the late bloomer…..the spirit that demonstrates that “it’s never too late to dream.”®

Candidates for the Alibi Flight Award will be accepted and reviewed through the Late Bloomer Foundation.
